Built this cool “metal earth” model Tiger I. My poor hands.
The model starts as these entirely flat sheets. the only thing that wasn’t flat when I got it was the tank barrel. Similar to papercraft, this is assembled entirely using these little tabs and a pair of needlenose pliers.
Where the trouble really came was with the tiger’s interlaced road wheels.
According to wikipedia the tiger had a then-revolutionary torsion bar suspension that resulted in serious maintenance concerns and often necessitating removing nearly every wheel on the tank.
This serioiusly sucked to put togeter. underneath every wheel including the outer ones is a little meticulously rolled riser. Tab alignment was a killer.
Overall, for 10$, this was cool and well made. If the metal or the tolerances were even slightly shittier this would have been hell to build. as it was, it was just frustrating but doable.

That’s cool, but I don’t think I’d have the patience.

My daughter bought this for me as a Christmas gift this year. All those little tabs look like hell to get right without many a swear word. I’m hesitating to put it together, although it would look really sweet on my desk at work.

Those look neat. What kind of metal is that?

I built a helicopter of some sort. It was ok but the blades are so flimsy.

Those kits are awesome but will definitely teach you the difference between your old beat up Craftsman needle-nose and a decent jeweler-quality pair!

Just remember that if they are inside you don’t have to fold them flat, just twist them 90 degrees

No idea, but it is thin and can handle being bent wrong a couple of times so it is pretty decent quality. Some kind of aluminum maybe?

Is it magnetic?

I’ve done a couple of these, including the very same Tiger ;) cool little kits, and I think they are stainless steel, not magnetic.

I have a couple of those kits but have definitely been putting them off. Needed better pliers and some tin snips.
